I think seeing it written out like this brings up two things that might be confusing a central message:

- The subtle difference between ""sleep"" and ""rest"" kind of blurs the message and the story. We see that Olive didn't sleep, but then the kids get curious about resting. They made the jump from sleep to rest, but actually that's kind of the lesson they need to learn (that sleeping is how our bodies rest). I wonder how we can ""pick one"" and stick with it, in order to simplify the lesson and story.

- There seem to be two mysteries: ""Why do we sleep (or rest)?"" And ""Do all animals sleep (or rest)?"" I think it's good to support the idea that sleep is important and normal in nature with the notion that lots of animals sleep/rest. But right now the two questions feel intertwined narratively, which makes things complicated. I wonder how we can simplify, or tease out the two, or bring one question more to the forefront and have the other support it, rather than complicate it.

Specific suggestions below. Another top note is to do a pass for language, and make sure the kid dialogue sounds like it's coming from kids. Thanks for the good work!"</Text>

Try to write this scene as if Olive isn't aware yet that there's something wrong, even though to the audience it's probably clear why she's acting the way she is, and try not to have the Elinor and Ari make that connection either.

For example, have these lines play out something like this:

Olive: Hi, Nelinor. I mean, hi Relinor. I mean... Hi friend.
Elinor: Olive, are you ok?
O: Yeah (yawn)
Ari: Did you finish reading your book?
O: No, but I got a lot closer. My mom let me read for five extra minutes, but the book was so good I lost track of time.
E: So you didn't sleep?
O: I only slept a little, but at least I got to read more of my book.
A: I thought everyone had to sleep.
O: Maybe not. I'm gonna ask my mom if I can not sleep tonight, so I can finish this (yawn) story.
A: Whoa. If I didn't sleep, I would have a lot more time to play.
E: Hmm, I never thought about it before. Why DO we need to sleep? I mean, what is sleeping good for?
A: Good question. It's a sleepy mystery.
E: I know! Let's see if we can find any animals sleeping on the way to school. Maybe that will help us figure out why we sleep.

For this section where they look for animals, suggest we change a few things:

- Let's have the kids out to look for animals sleeping, not necessarily checking if they sleep or not. Remove the checklist, or replace it with just Olive drawing (or trying to draw) the animals they observe on a page (we might use it later when they talk to Mz. Mole).

- Let's have the first two animals they find be obviously sleeping (the owl, and add a lizard sleeping). Also, see if you can drop in a little bit of a hint as to why sleeping is good. E.g. Elinor remembers owls sleep during the day, but she remembers seeing one fly at night. And maybe they are observing the lizard as it sleeps (make a fun little scene of them hiding behind a bush?) and then the lizard wakes up, and scurries off with high energy.

- But then have the third animal be the fish. The kids see the fish (there's a fish!). I wonder if fish sleep? One kid remembers, wait, how can fish sleep if they don't have eyelids? Does that mean fish don't sleep? It does look like it's resting, though. It's just sitting there not moving. Then Olive says her line. See, if fish don't sleep, maybe I don't hvae to either. Then they go off to school. Maybe we end the scene with a concerned or puzzled Elinor to cue the audience there's more on this topic to come."</Text>

Depending on how long or short the script is, give a few example of cool animals and how they rest, but don't talk about eyes. Suggest you let the kids bring it up. Another kid says, Maybe it was sleeping, but just in a different way? and Mz. Mole confirms, that's right! etc.
